Hot Weather
When a heatwave is predicted, we try to get in touch with everyone who has a walk booked in with us. We’d rather your pups don’t get sick. In the UK we have the misfortune of heavy humidity when it gets hot, as such it’s much more likely that a dog can get heatstroke.
We recommend owners supply frozen kongs/lickimats, cool vests, cool mats and plenty of water. We will check water levels and heat of the house when we drop pups home.
When local temperatures reach 21c-24c we do not do a full ‘normal walk’. If a dog needs to go out we will take them to an indoor play area that can be kept cool, or we walk leisurely in heavy woodland. However, if the indoor play/woodland gets to above 24c then pee breaks will be our only safe option.
There is the option of skipping the walk and getting a pee break and playtime visit, instead.
Brachycephalic dogs - For Flat-faced dogs, there is an increased risk of heatstroke, as such we would not recommend a walk when it’s 21c or above.
During extreme weather, we try to work with you to make a plan best suited for your dog. We prioritise dogs that are home alone, and need a pee break, a check in or medications. This may mean that we will need to cancel a walk/visit if the temperatures are extreme, and if someone will be home to care for them.
We will periodically make sure that we have your up-to-date vet details. In the event of a pet becoming unwell, if we can’t get hold of you or your vet, we will get them to the nearest vet.
